Наталья Яковлевна отвечала за подготовительную работу — подбирала фотографии царя, а потом отливала икону золотом и серебром, наносила надписи. Читала акафист, пока Александр Родиков писал икону. Заваривала ему чай. И сама еще параллельно писала икону Цесаревича. В мастерскую приезжали многие старцы (в том числе отец Наум), чтобы помолиться.

Неожиданно для себя иконописцы закончили писать образ в ночь убиения царственных мучеников — 17 июля 2003 года.
