Solidarity activist dies after falling from balcony under “strange” circumstances

Solidarity activist Aleksey Stroganov, who was reported to have died after being hit on the head with a pipe, actually died after falling from a balcony under unclear circumstances. This was announced by the founder of the social network gulagu.net Vladimir Osechkin and confirmed by politician Ilya Yashin.

According to Osechkin, he learned about Stroganov's death from the activist's friends, who voiced the version of the police officers of the Severnoye Medvedkovo district. “There are no direct witnesses to this incident,” Osechkin said.

As Osechkin managed to find out, the investigators interrogated three people who were with Stroganov that evening. Since the testimonies of the three witnesses were identical, the police department did not find grounds for initiating a criminal case.

“The respondents say that they did not beat Stroganov and allegedly left him in the apartment, and then found him groaning next to the entrance,” Osechkin said. He specified that the activist fell from the second floor.

In the hospital, an employee of gulagu.net was told that, in addition to a severe head injury, Stroganov found traces of beating on his arms and legs.

Osechkin sent a statement to the Investigative Committee demanding that a criminal case be opened urgently. Such a request is due to the fact that tomorrow, October 26, the body of the activist should be cremated.

“There are all signs of a crime, which are enough to initiate a criminal case,” Osechkin is sure.

Politician Ilya Yashin, who reported the death of Stroganov due to a head injury after being hit by a pipe, confirmed to Novaya Gazeta that the information was unreliable.

“In order to sort this out, we will request verification materials from the investigating authorities through a deputy’s request,” Yashin said.

According to Yashin, Stroganov was a member of Solidarity for many years and took part in organizing protests in 2011-2012.

In the comments on the entry about Stroganov's death, the politician wrote that the attack on the activist became known on October 24. Prior to that, he had not contacted for two months, and Solidarity did not know what was wrong with him.
