The European programming week was held in Kursk for the first time

On October 14, 2017, classes on “Programming - competence of the future” were held in Kursk as part of the MEET and CODE initiative and the European programming week. They were attended by schoolchildren and students of the South-Western State University.

Classes were conducted by the director of the Trionics Foundation Anton Kartamyshev and programmer Mikhail Semakhin . In total, 150 students of 5-11 schools of schools of the Kursk region and more than 80 students of 1-3 courses of the specialty “Information Technologies and Information Security” participated.

The participants met each other, listened to lectures and asked questions about the work of a programmer, the necessary skills and trends in the IT sphere.

In addition, the participants discussed the possibilities of modern software tools in the field of machine learning: Google Tensorflow , Yandex CatBoost and Microsoft Azure Machine Learning .

Speakers talked about why it is important to study programming in humanitarian specialties. They also advised the participants to develop Soft Skills , or “soft” skills: responsibility, discipline, management of their time, leadership, critical thinking and teamwork.

Meet and Code and the European programming week are an initiative that is designed to support educational measures on programming in different countries. Its goal is to interest children and youth with digital technologies. The event has been held since 2013 in different countries on the initiative of the European Commission.
