Programming Week: as pupils of an orphanage in Safonovo, they created a computer game

On October 9 and 10, 2017, master classes on the basics of programming as part of the European Magistry Week and MEET and CODE initiative were held in the Safonov orphanage of the Smolensk Region. Classes were conducted by specialists of the children's programming school Coddy .

At the first master class, children 7-9 years old were taught to use algorithmic thinking. It teaches you to consistently and clearly express its thoughts and break the complex action into a series of consecutive simple ones. This skill is important for successful training and planning of its activities.

The specialist of the Coddy School Andrei Rudakov invited the participants to perform several entertaining exercises. For example, draw pictures from incomplete geometric figures or come up with a hero who was in a difficult situation and help him solve the problem.

“Guys from orphan institutions often do not see what the solution to the problems is made up. They get used to the fact that they decide everything for them. The most difficult task for the children was to come up with a thing that never existed, and tell about it. Some children came up with unusual solutions: four -channel headphones, a camera, reviving images, and an endless lollipop.

At the master class "Creation of games in Scratch" Andrei Rudakov spoke about the visual programming language.

The guys with enthusiasm created the hero, the environment, programmed him for different actions. Then they added the second hero and learned to set codes to create a dialogue between them. At the end of the lesson, the children wrote a code to manage the hero through the keyboard.
