The deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexander Makhonov filed a report on his retirement of his own free will against the backdrop of a corruption scandal. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the official representative of the department Irina Volk.

“This once again emphasizes that the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs strictly adheres to the principle of personal responsibility of the leaders for misconduct committed by their subordinates,” the wolf said.

The reason for the resignation of Makhonov was the criminal case of his subordinate, the acting head of the scientific and production association "Special Technology and Special Science" by Andrei Nechaev. On October 18, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested Nechaev on suspicion of abuse of powers that entailed grave consequences (part 3 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code). As Kommersant reported , crimes that are charged with Nechaev are associated with the supply of equipment for the information system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The agency has concluded several state contracts with "special equipment and special communications." NGOs received more than 1.5 billion rubles for them, but it did not manage to carry out work on time. According to investigators, Nechaev and accomplices could receive large kickbacks from contractors.

Makhonov was appointed deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in February 2015. Prior to this, he worked at the Moscow City Hall, the telecommunication companies Mostelecom and MTK Telecom, as well as the general director of the Open Joint -Stock Company Electronic Moscow. Then he headed the Department of Information Technology, Communications and Protection of Information of the Ministry of the Interior.
