Judge: Russia will not leave the ECHR

The scenario of freezing Russia's participation in the activities of the Strasbourg Court is 100 percent unrealistic. This was stated by the judge of the European Court of Human Rights from Russia Dmitry Dedov, reports . RIA Novosti

“I think that Russia will not withdraw from the ECtHR. This is an interesting scenario, which, I think, is 100 percent unrealistic,” Dedov said.

At the same time, he noted that in the event of withdrawal from the ECtHR, “all submitted complaints must still be considered and a decision must be made.”

On October 23, Leonid Slutsky, deputy chairman of the Duma Committee on International Affairs , said that Russia could freeze membership in the ECHR and reduce contributions to this organization. However, according to him, it is too early to talk about the timing of such a decision.

Earlier, the speaker of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, warned that Russia would not recognize the decisions of the ECtHR as legitimate if the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) did not return the powers of the Russian delegation next year.

Recall that since 2016, Russia has not sent the documents necessary for the accreditation of its delegation to PACE, since in 2014-2015 Russian parliamentarians were deprived of the right to vote at sessions and the opportunity to participate in the work of the statutory bodies of the assembly because of their position on Crimea.
