The Prime Minister of Spain demanded that the head of the Government of Catalonia be shifted from the post

The Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rahah requested the Senate authority to shift from the post of head of the Government of Catalonia Carles Puchdemon. Rahoy called what was happening in autonomy "exceptional situation."

Today in Madrid will be a meeting of the Spanish Senate Commission on the introduction of direct rule in Catalonia. The central authorities plan to introduce the 155th article of the Constitution, after which early elections will be held in Catalonia within six months.

On the eve of the head of the Government of Catalonia, Carles Puchdemon refused to declare early regional elections. According to media reports, in Madrid they were ready to refuse to introduce a direct rule in the province in case the parliament was blocked in the region.

Catalonia leaders believe that the referendum on October 1 provided the region of the mandate for independence. According to regional authorities, more than 90 percent of the voting participants supported the idea of separation from Spain. However, Carles Puchdemon decided to postpone the proclamation of independence and called on Madrid to the dialogue. The central government declared the referendum illegal and refused negotiations. However, Puchdemona was invited to perform in the Senate.

The referendum on independence is criticized that it was carried out without compliance with the necessary norms, and in Catalonia itself only agitation for independence was held and there was no campaign at all in support of the unity of Spain. However, after the referendum in the region, thousands of rallies of both supporters and opponents of independence were held.
