US authorities ordered former Donald Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort to surrender to the authorities, reports The New York Times . According to Reuters , Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates showed up at the FBI office.
Manafort has been under investigation for federal tax violations, money laundering, and possibly his ties to Russia during the Trump presidential campaign.
The FBI indictment is 35 pages long, alleging that Manafort was involved in money laundering and illegal receipt of money throughout 2016, when he ran the Trump campaign.
The indictment in the case of Russian interference in the US presidential election was issued on Friday. US intelligence agencies believe that Russia interfered in the election to help Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton.
The FBI is also checking several companies and money transfers linked to Manafort for aid in 2012 to the "Ukrainian regime close to Putin."
