Former head of the election headquarters Donald Trump Paul Manafort and his business partner Rick Gates surrendered to the FBI in Washington, reports Reuters . Prior to this, the US authorities offered Manafort and Gates to appear with a confession, writes The New York Times .

Manafort was under investigation for violations of federal tax legislation, money laundering and, possibly, for his ties with Russia during the Trump presidential campaign.

The FBI accusation - 35 pages, but Donald Trump’s election campaign is not mentioned - it is only said that Manafort was engaged in laundering and illegal receipt of funds during 2016, including when he led the Trump election campaign.

According to CNN , the accusations of Manafort and Gates were brought under 12 points. This is, in particular, about “a conspiracy against the United States, a conspiracy to launder money, actions as an unregistered foreign agent, as well as the provision of false information under the law on registering foreign agents and non -editing reports on foreign banking accounts.”

Personally, Manafort is accused of laundering $ 18 million, which he used to acquire property, goods and services in the United States. In total, through the offshore accounts of Manafort and Gates passed to $ 75 million.
According to Associated Press , Manafort can face up to 80 years of prison and a large fine, Rick Gates can get up to 70 years. Manafort, according to CNN , is already in the Washington Federal Court. And according to Bloomberg agency, Manafort was placed under house arrest.

President Trump, commenting on the appearance of Manafort with a confession, emphasized that all charges against him are concerned to work in the presidential election headquarters.

The indictment in the case of Russia's interference in the election of the US President was submitted on Friday. American special services believe that Russia has intervened in the elections to help Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton.

The FBI also checks several companies and money transfers related to Manafort, for help in 2012 "Ukrainian regime, close to Putin."

Manafort left the post of head of Trump’s election campaign in August 2016, three months before the election, due to suspicions of financial crimes. Law enforcement agencies also investigated Manafort's relations with Russian businessman Oleg Deripaska.
