Novosibirsk: Residents of Akademgorodok Mitstisha against development

More than 50 residents of Novosibirsk held a rally on October 29 against the sealing development of Akademgorodok. Participants believe that construction will lead to the destruction of the infrastructure of the Academic Center and a decrease in the standard of living, on which the quality of scientific research depends. The organizers fear that the leadership plans of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences are aimed at squeezing out of the elite territory of pensioners.

The rally of residents is a reaction to the plans of the development of Akademgorodok voiced by the new head of the Presidium of the SB RAS Valentin Parmon. The organizer of the rally, Doctor of Biological Sciences Natalya Shamina said that according to the project "Big Akademgorodok", it is planned to demolish the Khrushchevs and the eviction of pensioners and people who are not related to science, for the territory of Akademgorodok.

At a meeting with residents on October 23, Valentin Parmon said that it is impossible to freeze at the current level of development, so as not to turn into a “town of pensioners”. He also announced plans for the construction of a hotel, a congress center and leisure centers for children. For this, a hotel project in the forest near the new NSU building is possible.

Shamina believes that the construction of these facilities is not advisable, since there is a house of scientists, a congress center and a technopark hotel on the territory. And if the construction is necessary, then it should be taken outside the upper zone of Akademgorodok.
