Diary.ru service is closed due to financial problems

The administrator and the main owner of the Diary.ru online Diary.ru service service announced on his blog about the imminent closure of the project. In September, the site ended with accumulations, and new income to maintain work is not enough.

The commentary from the project managers says that the site earns about 300 thousand rubles a month, while it requires 480 thousand per month for its maintenance. Until now, the resource has survived due to the accumulations made since 2011.

In September, the administration of Diary.ru tried to increase the number of advertising banners, but users reacted by the installation of the locks. At the same time, the percentage of the use of paid services is minimal, and most of the diaries are closed from external visitors.

“We reduced our expenses to a minimum, experiment with advertising formats, but these efforts can only delay the last day, but not cancel it. The site is confidently unprofitable and does not have the prospects of revival in the existing model. No matter how sad it should be,” the administrators have passed, ”the administrators admit.

The diaries were extended for two months thanks to the refusal of one of the administrators from the salary. "For all your multiplicity, I do not really believe that there are quite a lot of people who want to constantly pay for maintaining the site. I do not know yet how to do so that you and we do not lose their loved ones, after we will be forced to close Dairi. But, as I promised you many years ago at the beginning of the way, we will try to make your parting without the loss of the archives of friends in Dairea," users Rudenko.

The site cannot use crowdfunding to attract additional funds, since it is managed by an LLC - a commercial company that is prohibited from accepting voluntary donations.

The Diary.ru project was founded in 2002 Evgeny Rudenko. For the first five years, he paid for all the costs of maintaining the resource on his own. In 2007, he transferred half of Mail.ru Group, but a year later Rudenko returned his share. Currently, Evgeny Rudenko owns 75% of the company, another 25% belongs to his son Nikita.

The core of Diary.ru today has 35 thousand people, of which less than two thousand people use paid services. In September, 110 thousand people a day attended diaries.
