Ukraine introduced a new draft of a resolution on violations of human rights in the annexed Crimea. This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the press secretary of the permanent representative office of Ukraine under the International Organization Oleg Nikolenko.

In particular, it contains a requirement for Russia to fulfill the temporary measures of the UN International Court of the UN Court of the Crimean Tatar people, and also emphasizes the need to provide training in the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar languages," Nikolenko said.

In addition, the document emphasizes "the need to access international organizations in the occupied Crimea."

On December 20 last year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the situation with human rights in Crimea . Russia was designated in the text of the document as a "occupying power", and Crimea as a "temporarily occupied" territory. The resolution condemns violations of the rights of "Crimean Tatars, as well as Ukrainians and persons belonging to other ethnic and religious groups." The document is condemned by "infringement of human rights and discriminatory measures" from the "Russian occupation authorities" on the annexed peninsula.

The resolution proposed by Ukraine was supported by 70 states. Representatives of 26 countries, including Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Venezuela, Iran, China, DPRK, Cuba, Serbia, Syria, voted against. 77 states under the vote abstained.

On April 19, the UN International Court in The Hague ordered Russia to cancel the ban on the Medzhlis of the Crimean Tatar people and remove other restrictions on the representation of their interests by the Crimean Tatars. This is one of the interim measures taken by the court during the consideration of the claim of Kyiv for Moscow regarding the violation of the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination. Another measure was the imposition of the obligation to restore training in Ukrainian in the annexed Crimea.

“At the moment, the court has come to the conclusion that the Crimean Tatars and ethnic Ukrainians in Crimea are in a vulnerable position,” the adoption of such measures in the court decision was explained.
