The ban on anonymizers and VPNs came into force
On November 1, amendments to the Federal Law “On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection” came into force. They oblige the owners of VPN services, anonymizers and search engine operators to restrict access to sites blacklisted by Roskomnadzor.
Roskomnadzor, at the request of law enforcement agencies, will determine providers that allow the placement of technologies to bypass blocking. The provider will be notified about the need to connect to the FSIS in three days. When connecting, he is obliged to provide information about the owner of the anonymizer, to whom Roskomnadzor will send the same notification about the need to connect to the FSIS. After connecting, the owners of such services will be required to close access to prohibited sites, or the anonymizer will be blocked. Search engines will also be connected to the Federal State Information Service so that they do not provide links to sites from the register of prohibited ones.
