Deliveries of Turkish tomatoes to Russia will begin in five to seven days

The first batches of tomatoes from Turkey will arrive in Russia in five to seven days, TASS reports citing a message from Rosselkhoznadzor. For now, Turkish tomatoes will enter Russia through three checkpoints: Bryansk Pogar and New Yurkovichi and the seaport of Gelendzhik in the Krasnodar Territory, said Rosselkhoznadzor press secretary Svetlana Zemchenkova.

According to her, supplies will be strictly controlled to avoid illegal shipments. Rosselkhoznadzor specialists will work at all checkpoints. They will check documents and monitor phytosanitary control of products, and will also inspect several temporary storage warehouses for Turkish tomatoes.

Earlier, Rosselkhoznadzor named three Turkish enterprises that received permission to import tomatoes to Russia - these are Ozaltin, Agrobay and SURA, Interfax wrote on October 31.

Russia has restricted supplies of certain products from Turkey since January 1, 2016, after Turkish fighter jets shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber on the Turkish-Syrian border in November 2015.

In October, Energy Minister Alexander Novak announced that Russia would allow the import of Turkish tomatoes from November 1. Only 50,000 tons will be allowed to be imported, he clarified. The government expects that Turkey will respond by lifting similar barriers to agricultural products from Russia, Novak noted in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
