“On Volkhonka Street, building 10, where the personal collections department of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts is located, the roof caught fire. There is thick black smoke,” the TASS source said . 10 fire and rescue units are at the scene of the incident. There were no reports of casualties.

At the same time, according to Interfax, the fire occurred due to a malfunction of the museum’s ventilation system. More than 30 people were evacuated from the building.

As the Evening Moscow publication notes , road traffic is blocked in the area of ​​the fire on Volkhonka.

Earlier, the press service of the capital's head office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that a fire broke out on the territory of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Black smoke was coming from the roof of the building located on Volkhonka.

The official website of the museumreports that the main exhibition of the personal collections department will be closed until 2019 due to the decision to partially use the building for temporary storage facilities.

UPD: The head of the press service of the capital's main directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Oksana Zolotova, stated that at 16:03 Moscow time the fire in the museum building was extinguished. The fire area was about 40 square meters.

“Currently there is smoke, fire and rescue units are removing smoke. There is no threat to material values,” Zolotova clarified.
