Natalya S., a primary school teacher at school No. 33 in Smolensk, resigned of her own free will after the media learned that she taped a second-grade student’s mouth, Readovka.ru reports . The incident is being investigated by the local Investigative Committee.
According to the publication, the teacher wrote a statement on November 2. As the Smolensk administration clarified to RIA Novosti, the school management did not insist on dismissal, but had previously repeatedly tried to retain the young specialist.
According to I. O. Chairman of the Smolensk Committee on Information Policy Anna Shvilo, the school administration reprimanded the teacher and planned to leave it at that. The parents of the students did not insist on dismissal.
“This is not the first time she has tried to quit. A young teacher, they used to always protect her, they tried to keep her at school, but due to recent events she quit. The director did not dissuade her,” Shvilo said.
She also emphasized that the teacher apologized to the students and parents for her actions.
As local media write, elementary school teacher Natalya S. came to school in the new school year. It is reported that parents almost immediately began to complain to the director and head teacher of the school about Natalya S.’s behavior - according to them, she called names and beat the children. Dissatisfaction was also caused by voluminous homework for primary schoolchildren. But the school staff defended the young teacher.
The incident with the tape occurred on October 16: one of the students allegedly talked to a classmate in class, and the teacher taped his mouth as punishment. The second grader sat like that for 30 minutes. It was only in November that the city administration became aware of the incident.
The mayor of the city, Vladimir Sovarenko, called for the teacher to be punished and said that such an attitude towards students is unacceptable.
The day before, the Investigative Committee for the Smolensk Region began a pre-investigation check into reports of a primary school teacher using physical violence against a child. Investigators, in particular, will interview parents and schoolchildren themselves.
At the end of October in St. Petersburg, after an internal inspection, teacher Olga Alferova was fired after she wrote the word “fool” on the forehead of a second-grader. According to the teacher, the children constantly drew tattoos on their arms with felt-tip pens. The teacher with 17 years of experience said that next time she would personally write “fool” on the forehead of the person who painted himself, and she kept her promise.
Later, the world court fined the teacher one thousand rubles for humiliating the honor and dignity of a child.
In May, a criminal case was opened in Angarsk against a kindergarten teacher who taped a child’s mouth and posted the photo on Instagram. She was accused of torturing a minor. The teacher explained her action by playing with the children.
Last year, a teacher in a Perm gymnasium, a teacher in a Kirov kindergarten, and a teacher at a school in Naberezhnye Chelny used adhesive tape in lessons.
