Baikal: On the coast of the lake, the dead were found again

A few more dead seals were found on the coast of Baikal, Interfax reports. Over the past week, about 150 seals died, which are the endemic of this lake and entered in the International Red Book. Which led to the death of animals is unknown.

The first messages about the dead seals began to arrive in late October. The corpses of animals were discovered by tourists who also talked about wounds on their bodies. Veterinarians did not find signs of known diseases in animals. Scientists believe that the cause could serve as a storm on the lake. The commission in Irkutsk instructed to check the Baikal fish for the maintenance of hazardous substances.

The damage from objects affecting the ecology of Lake Baikal is estimated by the Prosecutor General’s Office of 156 million rubles. There are regular reports of lake pollution by various companies.
