Olympic champion Rio in Marathon was disqualified for four years

The hospital refuted this information, since in such cases the patient is observed for at least four days before prescribing treatment.

"An ectopic pregnancy is a taboo in our society, so I did not tell anyone about it, including my coach, who is my husband," Sumgong said.

The hospital gave evidence that the documents provided by the athlete and confirming the visit to the hospital are not reliable. The hospital has a special system of documentation for patient service. First, visitors to the hospital are registered, and after discharge they receive a document indicating the date of discharge, prescribed treatment and the date of the next reception.

Sumgong could not provide these documents during the hearing. Also, representatives of the hospital claimed that Erythropoetin could not enter the blood of the athlete if she was prescribed treatment for an ectopic pregnancy, as this is not a standard practice in such cases.

It looks strange that Sumgong, who is an officer of the Armed Forces of Kenya, did not turn to a military hospital, located very close to the hospital. Taking into account all the above facts, Sumgong was found guilty of doping and disqualified for four years.

Sumgong received the gold of the 2016 Olympic Games , winning in the marathon. She became the first Kenyka to win the marathon at the Olympiads. In different years, Sumgong also turned out to be the first in the city marathons of London, Rotterdam and Las Vegas.
