The social network Twitter on Wednesday, November 8, announced a two-fold increase in the maximum number of characters in one message.
Long tweets - 280 characters instead of 140 - are now available to everyone except for those who write in Korean, Chinese and Japanese, according to Mashable . For two months, Twitter has been testing a new option: monitoring users showed that the majority still adhere to the 140-character format: only 5% wrote longer tweets and another 2% used more than 190 characters in one tweet, according to CNN .
The limit of 140 characters has existed since the launch of the social network in 2009.
