Entrepreneur Sergei Polonsky, after the court refused to toughen his punishment in the case of embezzlement, said that he would run for the presidency of Russia, Interfax reports on Wednesday, November 8 .
The Moscow City Court did not begin to toughen the punishment for a businessman who was released in the case of embezzlement due to the statute of limitations. The prosecutor's office insisted on toughening the punishment. Polonsky has not yet spoken about the election campaign or about his future campaign headquarters. The businessman only noted that the decision of the Moscow City Court in his case shows that "some kind of logic exists in Russian courts."
The Presnensky Court of Moscow released Polonsky from punishment on July 12. Previously, the court reclassified the accusation against the businessman from an article on large-scale fraud committed by an organized group to an article on fraud in the field of entrepreneurial activity. The businessman was accused of embezzling funds from equity holders of the Kutuzovskaya Milya residential complex and the Rublevskaya Riviera residential complex. It was reported that Polonsky, together with members of the board of directors of Mirax Group, stole 2.6 billion rubles.
