Update. The Russian Ministry of Defense declared "unfounded propaganda" the statements of the militants about the return of the city to the control of the "Islamic State".
The militants of the terrorist organization "Islamic State" returned the city of Abu Kemal under their control, according to the Iranian news agency Fars.
Syrian government troops that left Abu Kemal are trying to regroup for a counterattack, the report said.
On November 10, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the capture of Abu-Kemal by government troops, pointing out that this city is “the last major stronghold and center” of terrorists in Syria.
The operation to liberate Abu-Kemal, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, was carried out with the support of Russian aviation. Attacks on the positions of militants in the battles for this city, in particular, were carried out by long-range Tu-22M3 bombers flying from Russian territory.
