The prime minister of Spain first arrived in the rebellious Barcelona

The head of the Spanish government, Mariano Raha, visited Barcelona on Sunday. This happened for the first time after the start of the crisis caused by the declaration of independence of Catalonia.

Rajoy’s trip is timed to the nomination of his colleagues in the People’s Party Shavier Albiol as a candidate to participate in the regional elections in Catalonia, who were appointed Madrid on December 21, TASS reports.

Commenting on the actions of the Central Spanish government in relation to Catalonia, Raha said that each state of those with which Spain is adjacent would have been received similarly.

At the end of October, the Catalonia Parliament, following the controversial referendum, adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Catalan Republic as an independent and sovereign state.

Madrid considered this step by a violation of the Constitution. The Spanish government applied the 155th article of the Spanish Constitution. It provides for the restriction of autonomy and has never been used in history before.

The Government of Catalonia was dissolved, many politicians and public figures were placed in custody on charges of rebellion.

The head of the Government of Catalonia Carles Puchdemon and the few advisers of his government left for Belgium , where they continue to be located. On November 3, the Supreme Court of Spain issued the European order to arrest them. The Belgian court must make a decision on this order within 15 days.
