Lovers of flies

In the south-east of the Moscow Region, local residents are opposed by the Thai Corporation Charoen Pokphand Foods, which intends to build a complex of 180 thousand pigs in the Serebryano-Prudsk district. On Saturday, a rally of protest was held in silver ponds, gathered several hundred people. The National Meetings of Association in a conversation with Radio Liberty noted that Charoen Pokphand Foods should choose: either it is better to work with the population, or build outside the Moscow region.

Pedly smells

"They want to drown the area in pig shit, we will not allow this!" - In the usual rally manner, the submarine politician Nikolai Dijur speaks. He is a deputy in Chekhov near Moscow from Yabloko, but with pleasure quotes Vladimir Putin and leads his own organization - the civil forum of local self -government.

Dijur accuses the officials of corruption near Moscow and declares the desire to compete in the elections for the post of governor of the Moscow Region. He organizes protests in different areas of the region: for example, coordinated the hunger strike of local residents in the Chekhov district, which led to the closure of the Kulakovsky garbage training ground this summer. The new opponent of Dijhura is Thai meat manufacturers.

The newspaper Dizhura "Down with" devoted a special issue of the situation with the future pig farm. The newspapers are now distributed 10 thousand copies on pickets in the Serebryano-Pruudsky district of the Moscow Region, and Saturday in the ten thousandth village of Silver Ponds took place.

“Excuse me, it smells, it smells impossible,” says Galina Budarova, editor of the Serebryano-Prudy Bulletin of the already operating pig-breeding complex Charoen Pokphand Foods next to the village of Klemovo, also located in this area of the Moscow Region.

The complex in Klemovo is less than 30 thousand pigs. Since the new one is planned for 180 thousand, local residents make gloomy assumptions about how they will smell in the future, and also fear the entry into the soil and the Mordes River located next to the construction site.

According to Budarova, the pig -breeding complex in Klemovo is not the most attractive employer for local residents. And if the new pig farm appears in the Serebryano-Pruud district, it can be assumed that the workers will have to hire workers from somewhere from the side.

One of the organizers of the Saturday rally, Elena Petrova, told Radio Liberty that she owned the house and forty hundred hundred of land in the village of Titeevo, from her window the construction of the new pig farm is visible. She says that the corporation has the results of some public hearings, whose participants spoke for construction, but the residents of Titeevo were not at these hearings and are now collecting signatures against the pig farm.

According to Petrova, the construction is being approved, but wells are already drilling at the construction site. “We built a road to the construction site - we have never had such good roads,” she notes.

Next to the future pig farm, people use water from wells. If it is built, it may stop being safe. Pork manure, unlike cow, is quite harmful to the soil. Its processing takes more than a month, it requires special technologies. That is, a massive leakage of pork manure, if it occurs, will really be environmentally harmful.

“I can imagine what will happen to local old people, when they will stop bringing their grandchildren to the village for the summer. Everything around will die,” says Petrov.

Thai investor

Charoen Pokphand Foods is a large agricultural corporation from Thailand, its Russian office is located in the city of Lukhovitsa, Moscow Region, near silver ponds. In the Moscow region, the Thai corporation produces compound feed (it is considered one of the world leaders of this market) and grows pigs.

The complex of 180 thousand pigs Charoen Pokphand Foods tried last year to build in the Zaraysky district of the Moscow region - near Lukhovitz. But the government of the Moscow region forbade this after a four thousandth protest rally in Zaraysk. Then the Charoen Pokphand Foods addressed accusations of violating environmental standards at enterprises in the Nizhny Novgorod region and in the same Lukhovitsky district of the Moscow Region.

After the corporations were not allowed to build a pig-breeding complex in the Zaraysky district, she announced her intention to still implement this project in the southeast of the Moscow region, at a distance of not more than 120 kilometers from her feed factory in the Lukhovitsy. But in territories not as tightly populated as Zaraysky district. Serebryano-Pruudsky district, on the very border of the Moscow and Ryazan regions, satisfies these conditions.

In January, the head of the administration of silver ponds, Oleg Pavlikhin, said that Thais would invest 3.7 billion rubles in the construction of a pig farm. The budget of the Moscow region (apparently annually) will receive 49 million rubles from it, and the district budget - 7.1 million.

Image and logistics

Sergey Yushin, head of the Executive Committee of the National Meat Association, noted in a conversation with Radio Liberty that the construction of new livestock complexes in Russia is often associated with the protests of local residents.

Residents are afraid of stench and harmful emissions, but, according to Yushin, modern technologies allow you to build livestock complexes, which smell less than from any rural economy where cattle and birds are bred. And the companies themselves are interested in not stinking at their enterprises: so that their employees can work normally.

According to Yushin, a complex of 180 thousand pigs, of course, is very large for world practice, but not for Russia. If farms are grown in other countries of pigs, then large livestock complexes are being built in Russia. In the planning in the Serebryano-Prudsk district, the complex will have 6 thousand sows, while usually 2.5-5 thousand sows are kept in Russia.

Yushin notes that the Moscow Region is a specific region where there are a lot of people working in Moscow not interested in any agriculture. For Charoen Pokphand Foods, it is logistic to have production in the Moscow region, but Thais need to either work better with the local population, or go to other Russian regions, where much more investments and jobs are needed.

Silver ponds of Radio Freedom failed to get a comment from the leadership of the administration of the village - the administration answered that the management was on vacation. The PR-director of the Russian branch of Charoen Pokphand Foods Dmitry Shtykov did not respond to calls and SMS from Radio Liberty at the time of publication, and also did not send his comment by e-mail.
