150 people gathered for a rally in the village of Izhma in defense of the Komi language on November 9. This was told by one of the organizers of the rally, a local secondary school teacher Emilia Bratenkova. The reason for the action was the signing by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth Policy of the Komi Republic Natalya Mikhalchenkova Order No. 366-N of October 26, 2017 about the choice of Russian or Komi language for studying in schools as a native.

“There was a wind, and it was cold,” said Bratenkova, “so I rushed the speakers so that people could quickly go to the warmth.” 10 people managed to perform.

According to the participants in the action, the parents of schoolchildren will be forced to choose the Russian language for mandatory study, since it is necessary for further education, and to choose the Komi language for learning as an optional subject, because it will become an additional load. This situation can lead to the fact that new generations will begin to gradually forget their native language.

In the announcement of the rally posted in the Miyan Izhma group on the VKontakte social network, Bratenkova wrote that such an experience in learning her native language was already negatively manifested in Karelia: “I studied the experience of other republics. And, for example, in Karelia in one of the areas with the 28th population in only one village (108 students), Karelian language is studied. In all other schools - no. Here is the result "I want - I teach, I want - I do not teach." Last year I was in this republic, it’s not like that in the city, even in the village they no longer know the tongue, or only old people know, and even the middle generation is gone. ”

Emilia Bratenkova said that a rally in support of the Komi language on November 9 was going to hold in Syktyvkar, where the organizers filed a notification of the rally on November 1. The city authorities refused the organizers, as the deadlines were violated, now they intend to hold the action later.

Before the end of the rally in Izhma, the organizers invited the participants to go to the House of Culture and sign a letter in defense of the Komi language.

“In a matter of minutes, not a single person was left on the street - everyone went [ into the House of Culture ], ” said Emilia Bratenkova. - We are now protecting ourselves so that we live as nationality.

Now, according to the assumption of the organizers, more than three thousand people have already signed under the open letter.

The head of the district, representatives of the administration and the district education department did not come to the rally. The action lasted about an hour, in the end, a resolution was unanimously adopted.

1. Head of the Komi Republic:

Stand on guard of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its fundamental laws, which are the basis of our national republic.

2. Deputies of the State Council of the Republic of Komi:

protect the state language of our republic - Komi;

Do not change the laws of the RK in infringing on the language of the Komi.

3. The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Policy: to cancel order No. 366-p of October 26, 2017 “On approval of the plan for the implementation by educational organizations of the Republic of Komi Clause 4 Lists of instructions of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. On July 20, 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting of the Presidential Council on Interethnic Relations in Yoshkar-Ola, said that the study of various peoples of native languages ​​should become voluntary, and drew special attention to the heads of the regions.

On October 26, Natalya Mikhalchenkova signed order No. 336-N, according to which parents or official representatives of schoolchildren will be able to choose a mandatory language for study-Komi or Russian.

Then, in a conversation for 250 people created on the VKontakte social network by the Komi language teachers, the discussion of this decision began. According to the participant of the conversation Emilia Bratenkova, the participants in the conversation unanimously condemned the order of the Ministry of Education.

On October 30, the user of social network VKontakte önö Love created the group “In support of the Komi Language!”. He posted in the group an open letter addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Komi Republic Sergey Gaplykov, which, in particular, says that the order violates the constitutional rights of citizens of the Komi Republic. Now the group has more than 1700 participants.

On October 31, Natalya Mikhalchenkova announced the signing of the order at a meeting with representatives of the Komi Voitsyr movement (Komi people).

On November 10, at the conference of the Komi people in Syktyvkar, the participants suggested that the State Council and the head of the Komi cancel the order, and the Minister of Education Mikhalchenkov to dismiss.
