1982 Liberation of Lech Walesa

35 years ago, on November 14, 1982, Lech Walesa, the leader of the independent Solidarity trade union, was released from prison in Poland after being interned after martial law was introduced in December 1981. On the same day, most of the interned activists of Solidarity and other anti-communist organizations were also released. In 1983, Walesa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but he could only start legalizing Solidarity in 1986.
