Trump's son confirmed that he corresponded with Wikileaks before the presidential election

The son of US President Donald Trump - the youngest admitted that he corresponded with representatives of WikiLeaks on Twitter during his father’s election campaign last year. He posted this correspondence in response to the publication of The Atlantic magazine, which stated that Trump Jr. talked with Wikileaks before the election.

"There is a whole chain of messages from the correspondence with WikiLeaks (including my three huge answers), which one of the US Congress committees has chosen for leakage. What irony!" - wrote the son of an American leader in a microblog.

Earlier, The Atlantic has unveiled part of the correspondence, which Trump Jr.'s lawyers transferred legislators involved in the investigation of the alleged intervention of the Russian Federation in the American elections.

From the posted messages it follows that the correspondence of the son of Trump with Wikileaks began in September 2016, at the same time he did not respond to most organization requests.

So, in a letter of October 3, with the Wikileak Twitter account, Donald Trump - the youngest was offered to comment on the material that his father’s opponent Hillary Clinton suggested sending a drone for an attack on the founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange. In response, Trump said he had already done this.

In July 2016, the WikiLeaks website published the documents of the National Democratic Committee, which said that his representatives were looking for ways to support Clinton during the primaries of the Democratic Party and tried to discredit it by the one-time-party, Bernie Sanders.

American intelligence in a report published in January stated that WikiLeaks helped Russia in interfering in the elections using the publication of materials that compromise Clinton.

The lawyer of Trump Jr. Alan Futherfas in the commentary of The Atlantic said that, “leaving aside the question of why and by whom these documents provided by Congress in exchange for a promise about confidentiality were published, we can say with confidence that we are not worried about them.” The lawyer noted that all questions related to the correspondence of the president’s son were provided "on the corresponding site."

Recall that in September, the son of US President Donald Trump - the younger testified in the Senate Law Committee, investigating the alleged intervention of Russia in the American elections. The main part of the hearings was dedicated to the meeting in June 2016 in the Trump Tower skyscraper, whose participants were Trump Jr. and Russian lawyer Natalya Veselnitskaya. As follows from the correspondence published in the media about the organization of this meeting, it was supposed to become part of the efforts of the Russian authorities to support Trump.

During the hearings in the Senate, Trump Jr. said that last year before meeting with a Russian lawyer he was ready to receive information about the main competitor of his father in the presidential election, US-US-Medical Secretary Hillary Clinton, including her "state of health, character and qualifications."

Prior to this, Trump Jr. admitted that on June 9, 2016 he held a meeting with Veselnitskaya in New York. The president’s son said that he agreed to do this, as he hoped to receive from her an information of a compromising nature about Clinton. Trump said that he never received any compromising evidence, and the meeting itself was useless. Veselnitskaya confirmed that she had no compromising information regarding Clinton.

The special prosecutor Robert Müller, who heads the investigation of the alleged intervention of Russia in the U.S. election, was engaged in checking the information about the meeting.

According to the press, the meeting in New York was also attended by a former employee of the State Department, translator Veselnitskaya Anatoly Samokerov, the meeting organizer - PRA Robert Goldstone - and the vice president of Crocus Group Irakli Kaveladze. The White House reported that the parties discussed the ban on the Americans on the adoption of Russian orphans and the "Magnitsky Law".
