Five alleged supporters of Tablighi Jamaat were detained in Moscow

Five alleged members of Tablighi Jamaat organization banned in Russia have been detained in Moscow. This is reported by the agency "Moscow" with reference to a source in law enforcement.

“According to the information of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the FSB, five citizens of 1991, 1992 and 1978. born, being members of the international extremist organization Tablighi Jamaat, from April to June of this year, in a rented apartment in Moscow, they carried out propaganda of radical Islam, namely the ideology of jihadists of the Wahhabi Salafi persuasion,” he said.

A criminal case was opened against the detainees for inciting hatred or enmity (Article 282 of the Criminal Code). From the apartment they rented, "literature of extremist content" was confiscated.

The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA center, this ban is unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and has not been seen in any calls for violence. In September 2017, the ECHR accepted for consideration the complaints of eight organizations recognized as terrorist and extremist in Russia. Among them is Tablighi Jamaat.
