© RAI Cultura Artistic Director of the Festival "Square" Yuri TemikanovThe performances of Evgeny Kisin, the laureates of the Echo Klassik Awards and other stars of the world stage, as well as concerts dedicated to the anniversaries of Rodion Shchedrin and John Adams, were included in the program of the XVIII International Winter Festival "Square", which will be held from December 14 to 21 in St. Petersburg.
The cross -cutting theme of “Arts Square” this year is the anniversary dates of outstanding composers. The program from the works of Sergei Rakhmaninov and Igor Stravinsky will open the festival on December 14 , whose 135th birthday of which is celebrated this year. They will be performed by the Honored Collective of Russia by the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonic, which also turned 135 this year, under the direction of the artistic director of the Festival "Square" Yuri Temirkanov.
Pianist Evgeny Kisin will take part in the opening concert, and on December 18 he will give a solo concert at which the 29th Beethoven Sonata “Hammerkhavir” and the prelude to Rachmaninov will be heard.
A few days before the date of closing the festival, composer Rodion Shchedrin will celebrate its 85th anniversary. On December 24, the program from his works of different years will be performed by the Honored Collective of Russia under the direction of Yuri Temirkanov and Nikolai Alekseev, soloists-Alexander Buzlov (cello) and Olesya Petrov (Mezzo-Soprano).
In the concert program on December 21 , the second Symphony of Rachmaninov, the Russian premiere of the composition “Ad Absurdum” Jorg Vidman and the music of John Adams, which celebrated his 70th anniversary this year. Contractors are the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonic, under the control of the laureate of the Echo Klassik - 2016 prize, Maxim Emelyanichev , soloist - Sergey Obsaryakov (pipe).
Another laureate of Echo Klassik - 2016 , the German Brass copper brass instruments ensemble, on December 16 in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic will perform the works of Bach and the Christmas songs of the peoples of the world. On December 20, the Israeli violinist Pinhas Zuckerman and his trio will be presented in the Great Hall in the Great Hall.
One of the central events of the “Arts Square” will be the performance of the requiem Giuseppe Verdi on December 19 in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic with the participation of the Honored team of Russia under the direction of Yuri Temirkanov, the Bolshoi Theater and soloists of Dinara Aliyeva (Soprano), Olesya Petrova (Mezztso-Sundoprano), Dmitry Beloselsky (BAS) and the Italian tenor Francesco Crages, whose solo concert will be held in the Great Hall on December 22 .
The main platform of the festival will be the St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic named after D.D. Shostakovich. In addition, in the temple of the Resurrection of Christ (saved on blood) on December 15, the concert choir of St. Petersburg under the direction of Vladimir Belyglytsov will perform the works of A Cappella Stravinsky and Shchedrin, the premiere of the Russian Office of the Seville Barber will be held at the Mikhailovsky Theater, and the Russian Museum will present the most interesting exhibitions planned during the festival.
