The Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation demanded to disqualify lawyer Olga Dinze, who is defending Akram Azimov, a defendant in the case of a terrorist attack in St. Petersburg. She told the Vedomosti newspaper about this.
The head of the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center, Alexey Romashin, filed a complaint against Dinze with the Ministry of Justice. He accused the lawyer of “illegally receiving a notebook with notes from the accused A. A. Azimov” and taking them out of the detention center.
We are talking about an incident that occurred in August 2017 - then the pre-trial detention center officers held Olga Dinze for several hours, demanding that she hand over the records given to her by Azimov, but she never did.
As Vedomosti writes, after the incident, the lawyer contacted the prosecutor’s office, where, based on the results of an investigation, she herself was accused of violating the law; FSIN employees, according to the prosecutor's office, also committed a violation of the regime. The prosecutor ordered the Federal Penitentiary Service to “punish the guilty,” the newspaper writes.
Olga Dinze denies that she broke the rules in any way. According to her, she asked Azimov to “formulate her position in writing,” since it was difficult to get a meeting with him, and, in her opinion, their conversations could be monitored by the FSB. Dinze claims that giving the recordings to the pre-trial detention center employees would be a violation of attorney-client privilege.
International Agora lawyer Ramil Akhmetgaliev, who is defending Dinze, says that correspondence is one thing, but communication with a lawyer, including written communication, is completely different. Usually this does not raise any questions for the security, but here the FSB intervened in the matter, which is trying to gain absolute control over the accused.
