One of the defendants in the Tatar Hizb ut-Tahrir case, Marcel Gimaliev, escaped from house arrest and was put on the wanted list. Realnoe Vremya reports this.
When he was detained in March, Gimaliev jumped out of the window of his apartment from the fifth floor of the building and received a compression fracture of the spine and broken arms. The court placed the suspect under house arrest.
FSIN employees did not put an electronic bracelet on Gimaliev and monitored his location through calls and visits to the apartment. On October 31, it turned out that Gimaliev had disappeared.
On November 7, he was put on the federal wanted list. On November 9, the judge sent Gimaliev to a pre-trial detention center in absentia for two months.
UPD: the SOVA analytical center writes that a prosecutor's investigation into the disappearance of human rights activist Marcel Gimaliev has begun in Kazan.
- In March, law enforcement officers detained 15 people suspected of participating in Hizb ut-Tahrir activities.
- In 2009, Marcel Gimaliev, who held the post of head of the Regional Human Rights Center “Nova” and was then accused of involvement in an extremist organization (Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code), assistance in terrorist activities (Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code) and preparation for actions aimed at violent change of the constitutional order RF (Article 30 Part 1, Article 278 of the Criminal Code), was declared insane by the court and sent for compulsory treatment .
- The Islamist party Hizb ut-Tahrir was recognized as a terrorist organization by decision of the Supreme Court. However, a number of experts from human rights organizations believe that there is no reason for this, since members of Hizb ut-Tahrir were not found to be involved in committing or preparing terrorist attacks. In recent years, in different regions of Russia, many cases have been opened under the article on the activities of a terrorist organization, in which people are actually accused of terrorism solely on the basis of “party activities” (meetings, reading literature).
