A court in Moscow arrested five alleged members of Tablighi Jamaat

Until January 12, 2018, the Kuntsevsky District Court of Moscow arrested five alleged members of the Muslim organization Tablighi Jamaat. This was reported by the news agency "Moscow" with reference to the press service of the court.

Ali Azhiev, Zhyldyzbek Ismailov, Kunan Turdimatov, Maksat Berdikulov and Ali Zulushev were sent to a pre-trial detention center. All of them are suspected of committing acts falling under Part 2 of Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in a prohibited religious association).

On November 14, the FSB announced that 69 members of Tablighi Jamaat had been detained in Moscow and the region.

Earlier it was reported that five alleged members of Tablighi Jamaat were detained in Moscow. A source of the Moskva agency in law enforcement agencies said that a criminal case was opened against the detainees under Article 282 of the Criminal Code.

The international religious organization Tablighi Jamaat was recognized as extremist in Russia in 2009. According to the SOVA center, this ban is unlawful, since the association is engaged in the propaganda of Islam and has not been seen in any calls for violence. In September 2017, the ECHR accepted for consideration the complaints of eight organizations recognized as terrorist and extremist in Russia. Among them is Tablighi Jamaat.
