Winners of the Enlightener 2017 Prize have been announced

On November 16, the Gradsky Hall Theater hosted the tenth ceremony of presenting the Enlightener Award for the best popular science book in Russian.

In honor of the anniversary of the prize and the centenary of the Russian revolution, a special prize "XX/17" was established, which was awarded to works that systematically and analytically describe the events of the revolution from today's point of view. The award was presented to Leonid Mlechin for the book “The True History of the Revolution or the Steel Orator Dozing in a Holster. What Happened in Russia in 1917” and to Boris Kolonitsky for the course on the 1917 revolution and the “1917: Free History” project at Arzamas.

In the nomination "Natural and exact sciences" the winners were Daria Varlamova and Anton Zainiev for the book "Go crazy! A Guide to Mental Disorders for a Big City Resident. In the nomination "Humanities" the jury chose two laureates: Alexander Pipersky for the book "Designing Languages. From Esperanto to Dothraki” and a team of authors — Alena Kozlova, Nikolai Mikhailov, Irina Ostrovskaya and Irina Shcherbakova — for the book “The Sign Will Not Be Erased. The fate of the Ostarbeiters in letters, memoirs and oral stories.

The Enlightener Award has been awarded since 2008. It was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Dmitry Zimin and the Dynasty Foundation for Non-Commercial Programs.
