The authorities of Transbaikalia noticed serious migration in 11 of 12 border areas with China and Mongolia. Now 252 thousand people live there, said the Minister of Social and Economic Development of the region Sergey Novichenko. Over the past 10 years, almost 40 thousand Transbaikal residents have left the border areas, the population density here is 4.4 times lower than the average in the country.
The official is sure that the cause of the mass outflow is the lack of work, poor living conditions and a low level of medicine. In half of the 265 cities and the villages of these areas there are no mobile communications of Russian operators, residents use Chinese, there are almost no ATMs and banks themselves, the wear of the communal systems reaches 70%, and in one of the areas absolutely all roads require major repairs, the minister said.
The authorities of the region announced that the training of a special regional program for the development of border territories is underway. Work on the document has been going on for two years, writes the Zab.ru portal.
Over the 9 months of this year, Transbaikalia left a third more residents than a year earlier. And in 2017, more than 5 thousand people left the region. In the Khabarovsk Territory over the same period, the pace of migration increased 4 times: 4 thousand people left the region.
