Robert Mugabe was ousted as leader of the ruling party

Zimbabwe's ruling party, the Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front, decided at a meeting on Sunday, November 19, to remove Robert Mugabe from the post of leader. This is reported by Reuters, citing sources in the party who were present at the discussion of the fate of Mugabe.

Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was the former Vice President of Zimbabwe, has been appointed as the new leader. Mugabe earlier in November accused Mnangagwa of plotting a coup and fired him as vice president.

The party suggested that Mugabe independently resign no later than Monday, November 20. Otherwise, the parliament will consider the impeachment of the president.
