Fujifilm accuses Polaroid of patent trolling

Fujifilm, which produces a line of cameras with instant printing of Instax images, has filed a lawsuit against Polaroid. Fujifilm believes that Polaroid is abusing patent rights by demanding that the Japanese company stop making cameras with square shots.

According to a filing by Fujifilm in a New York court, Polaroid claims that the company owns the rights to the square, white-bordered snapshots. We are talking about the camera Instax SQ10, which allows you to print pictures immediately after shooting. The SQ10 does use a print format similar to Polaroid photos.

Previous Fujifilm cameras used a rectangular image format. The company hopes that the court will find Fuji right and argue that Polaroid does not have rights to the image format, and is simply trying to cash in on intellectual property after failing to cope with the production of cameras.
