program Dmitry Kiselev, in the Vesti Nedeli on the Rossiya 1 TV channel on November 19, devoted a story to the amendments to the legislation adopted by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which allow recognizing the media as foreign agents.
In the introduction to the story describing the activities of the RT TV channel, recognized in the United States as a foreign agent, Kiselev listed the Russian media, to which the Russian Ministry of Justice had already sent warnings about possible sanctions. These are Voice of America, Kavkaz.Realii, Krym.Realii, Sibir.Realii, IdeL.Realii, Current Time TV channel, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Tatar-Bashkir service " Radio Liberty, the Factograph project.
“All these editorial offices could continue to work freely in Russia. In the general information flow, they are of little interest to the public, and in the conditions of freedom of speech in our country, there is little to surprise people with, ”Dmitry Kiselev said on the air.
According to him, in the US, "an alternative point of view has become in short supply."
“There are inconvenient facts that are scratching America, so the RT television company went uphill there until the authorities in the United States decided to use forceful retention,” Kiselev explains the US Department of Justice’s demand to recognize RT as a foreign agent.
In a follow-up story from RT's Moscow headquarters, Margarita Simonyan, the channel's editor-in-chief, says the US fears competition from them.
“As soon as a voice appeared in America that was heard, that began to pay attention to the problems of American society, it suddenly turned out that this was a foreign agent and he had to be driven with a filthy broom,” Simonyan said in an interview with Russia 1.
On November 15-16, the Ministry of Justice of Russia sent a notification to 9 media outlets that they could be recognized as foreign agents on the basis of amendments to the legislation adopted by the State Duma. The amendments were a response to forcing the RT channel to register as a foreign agent in the United States. In the near future, the bill should be considered by the Federation Council. The Council under the President of Russia for the development of civil society and human rights has declared its shortcomings, and asks the senators to reject the document.
