The Russian Foreign Ministry called the detention of Suleiman Kerimov in France illegal

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the detention in France of a member of the Federation Council Suleiman Kerimov illegal. It is reported by Interfax.

“Kerimov <…> is one of the official officials of the country and, as such, is immune from coercive actions on the territory of other states. He has a diplomatic passport,” the ministry said.

• Russian businessman, senator from Dagestan Suleiman Kerimov was detained at Nice airport on November 20. This became known on the evening of November 21st . According to reports, the detention is related to the case of buying expensive real estate on the Cote d'Azur through shell companies to evade taxes.
• In March, the Nice-Matin publication reported a search at the villa of Suleiman Kerimov on the Cote d'Azur as part of an investigation into the acquisition of real estate. Kerimov's representatives then said that the property did not belong to him.
• Suleiman Kerimov is ranked 21st in the list of the richest businessmen in Russia according to Forbes. The magazine estimates his net worth at $6.3 billion.
