How did it happen that the registration becomes one of the key concepts of Soviet life? What does the expression "passport mode" mean? How did the passport book and its filling change? Why was nationality previously determined from the words of a citizen, and later began to be determined "by parents"? How and why were passport information faked? Why did all the citizens of the USSR receive passports only after 1974? The answers to these and other questions are contained in the lecture of Professor A. Bayburin.

Albert Kashfullovich Bayburin

In 1972 he graduated from the History and Philology Faculty of Tartu University with a degree in philologist, literary worker. He began to engage in folklore at the university, entered the graduate school of the Institute of Ethnography with a degree in folklore and ethnography of the Eastern Slavs. In 1975 he graduated from graduate school and was hired at the Institute of Ethnography (now the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the Russian Academy of Sciences). In 1977 he defended his candidate, in 1995 - a doctoral dissertation for ethnography of the Eastern Slavs. He was engaged in research in the field of folklore, rites, semiotics of things. In the late 2000s. He switched to the study of Soviet everyday life, an anthropological study of the culture of documents. The author of more than 350 scientific publications in the field of ethnography, folklore and semiotics.

Since 1992, he participated in the project to create a European University in St. Petersburg. From 1994 to 2002 - Dean -Organizer of the Faculty of Ethnology, then - professor of the faculty of anthropology of the EUSPB.

The chief researcher at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great (Kunstkamera) RAS, editor -in -chief of the journal "Anthropological Forum", Honorary Dr. Sorbonne.
