On the evening of November 21, one of the quarters in the Tbilisi residential area of Isan was cordoned off by security forces - armed militants barricaded on the third floor in an apartment building.
Several divisions of special forces and police, armored vehicles, evacuation of residents, as well as a nearby school.
An attempt to negotiate, then an attempt to storm, then again negotiations, then again the assault. Fire in several apartments. Quiet Tbilisi has not seen such military operations for a long time.
The special operation lasted a day. According to its results, four special forces were wounded, one of them later died in the hospital, one of the militants was detained earlier, three were killed.
On November 23, the Georgian media, referring to numerous sources in the Security Council of the Republic, reported that among those killed was Ahmed Chataev, a close associate of the leader of the Imrat Kavkaz ( organization is banned in Russia ), Dokurov Umarov, close to the head of the Islamic state ( IGs prohibited in Russia ) al-Baghdadi and the world's number one in the North Caucasus (just like that in 2015 in 2015 The American senator, the head of the Security Committee, Michael McColus) said about him.
Ahmed Chataev was born in the Chechen village of Vedino in 1980. He took part in the Second Chechen War, during which he lost his right hand, after which he received a one -armed nickname. In the early 2000s, he fled with his family to Europe. Russia announced Chateaev on the line of Interpol, but in 2003 he managed to convince the authorities of Austria to provide him with political asylum (according to some information, he stated that the absence of his hand was a consequence of torture from the Russian security forces). All subsequent years, he traveled to various European countries as the official representative of Doku Umarov.
You can write books about Chataev’s fate and make adventurous films. Over the past ten years, he was arrested five times: in Russia, Ukraine, in Bulgaria, Sweden and Georgia-for storing weapons or because of suspicions of ties with terrorists. And every time he managed to leave. He was freed “for the unproven guilt”, and there were always influential politicians or international organizations that stood up for him - a political resident who allegedly pursue the Russian authorities.
In August 2012, the surname Chataev surfaced in connection with the scandalous anti -terrorism special operation near the mountain Georgian village of Lapankuri on the border with Dagestan. According to the official version of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs, a well -armed group of 20 people penetrated from Dagestan in Georgia. Its goal was to “destabilize the situation in the country” (at that time, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia). However, in the end, this version was untenable. As a result of the special operation, 11 armed men were eliminated, all of them turned out to be the Disgines, immigrants from the Pankisian gorge of Georgia. According to some reports, young people underwent military training in Pankisi, including under the leadership of Chataev. It was planned to transfer the group to Russia to replenish the ranks of the Imrat of the Caucasus.
During the special operation, Ahmed Chataev was wounded and surrendered to the authorities a few days later. The newly elected government of Bidzina Ivanishvili freed Chataev, applying a freshly baked law “On Amnesty” to him. At the same time, according to the official version, at the site of the special operation, he was at the invitation of the Georgian security forces close to Saakashvili to be an intermediary in negotiations.
After amnesty, Chataev moved to Turkey. And in February 2015, it became known that he had left for Syria, where he swore allegiance to the head of IG al-Baghdadi. In IG, he immediately took a significant post, becoming the close of the other famous DISTRIC and his old acquaintance Tarkhan BatiRASHVILI (in the ranks of IG was known as Abu Umar al-Shishani), who by that time was headed by the so-called “Ministry of War”.
Chataev was headed by the Yarmuk battalion - a division of IG, consisting of Chechens. However, he could not take part in hostilities: after his right hand, lost during the Second Chechen War, he lost his left leg during a counter -terrorist operation in Georgia. In the military ministry, he began to engage in operations planning, as well as to manage finances (Chataev coped with his duties so well that after the death of BatiRashvili in the summer of 2016 he temporarily performed his duties).

In October 2015, the United States put Chataev’s wanted list as a terrorist and included it in sanctions lists, which involve the freezing of all assets and property in the United States. A little later, the UN Security Council also made a similar initiative against Chataev.
In June 2015, a large terrorist attack occurred at Istanbul International Airport, which killed 43 people, about 240 were injured. A few days after the tragedy, Senator McCol said that the US attack is considered by Ahmed Chataev, it was he who coordinated three suicide bombers exploding at the airport.
In 2015, Ahmed Chataev from Syria sent an audio recording with threats to the Georgian authorities. He demanded the liberation of the former imam of one of the Pankisian villages Ayuba Borchashvili, who was detained by Georgian security forces on suspicion of relations with IG. In case of failure to fulfill this requirement, Chataev threatened the terrorist attacks in Georgia. During the trial, Borchashvili admitted that he was a representative of the IS in Pankisi, recruited and sent young people to fight the “caliphate” to the lands. Now Borchashvili is serving a 14-year sentence in prison.
How Ahmed Chataev, one of the most wanted terrorists in the world, ended up in Georgia, is still unknown. According to the sources of the “New” in the law enforcement agencies of Georgia, the security forces “led” Chataev and his people, and even during the special operation to the last tried to take him alive, entering into negotiations with him.
The identities of the dead are still not officially confirmed.
