Muscovites with disabilities participating in the city's housing renovation program will be provided with apartments developed according to a special project.
As the head of the capital's urban planning policy department, Sergei Levkin, told the Moscow Government Information Center, doorways and corridors will be increased in apartments located on the first floors. According to him, this layout will allow people with disabilities to be more mobile.
The department could not comment on how the adapted layout would fit into the architecture of the house and how many such apartments were planned, citing the fact that the project is currently at the development stage. Perhaps future apartments will be based on the best works of participants in architectural competitions. The results will be known in 2019.
In addition, Sergei Levkin recalled that as part of the renovation program, the Moscow authorities will assist in the resettlement of preferential categories of citizens.
On June 14, 2017, the State Duma adopted a law on the renovation of Moscow housing. The owner of the apartment is offered an equivalent apartment or money. Before a new apartment is provided, residents can withdraw from the program - to do this, they need to collect more than a third of the votes of the residents of the building. It is impossible to demolish the house while trials are ongoing.
Examples of apartments renovated under the renovation program can be found in two showrooms at VDNKh.
