“Instead, taking advantage of my appeal, not to reconcile it, not to resolve the issue of autocephaly, but to the fact that we supposedly want to return to the bosom of the Moscow Patriarchate. So, I want to say firmly - no repentance that I chose the path of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, there will never be and never will be. Because God gave us the state, and there should be an independent Orthodox. This is an axiom.

“See how Moscow is deceiving? It is impossible to trust her,” said the Patriarch of Kiev. “They asked for an appeal for reconciliation, that is, prayer unity, but again we are inclined to return to us.”

“If Moscow does not want to go with us to negotiations on the autocephalous church, we will negotiate with the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the same autocephaly. For us, autocephaly is a goal,” Filaret emphasized.

On Thursday, Russian media reported that Filaret asked for " pardon him and returning him to the bosom of the canonical church ." On February 21, 1997, at the Bishop Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church, Filaret was excommunicated from the church and devoted anathema.
