Employees of the Chita pre-trial detention center will be tried for beating prisoners who refused to clean up

The prosecutor's office sent to court the case of two employees of pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Chita, accused of exceeding their authority with the use of violence (clause “a” of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code), the department reports .

According to investigators, at the end of December 2016, two convicts from the housekeeping unit were ordered to carry out additional cleaning in the sanitary pass room, but they refused.

Outraged, the pre-trial detention center staff, “out of a sense of revenge,” punched one of the prisoners in the chest and the second in the stomach. Then they began to punch and kick him in the head and body. As a result, the prisoner was diagnosed with a damaged spleen.

This was classified as serious harm that endangered the life of the prisoner. The department decided that the action of the pre-trial detention center employees “significantly undermined the authority of the employees of the penal system.”

In Chita, according to the website of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Trans-Baikal Territory, there is one pre-trial detention center. In 2016, a prisoner in this detention center was beaten to death.
