The first person convicted in the March 26 case, Kuliy, was released

Actor Yuri Kuliy, convicted in the “March 26 case,” was released from penal colony No. 4 in the Ryazan region, his lawyer Alexey Liptser told OVD-Info.

According to the lawyer, his client is traveling by train to Moscow.

Yuri Kuliy became one of the first participants in the action on March 26 in Moscow, against whom a criminal case was opened under Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a government official). The actor admitted guilt, and his sentence was handed down on May 18: Judge of the Tverskoy District Court Maria Sizintsiva sentenced him to eight months in a penal colony.

The defendant himself, answering the question why he admitted guilt, said that he was counting on a suspended sentence. He appealed the verdict, but the Moscow City Court upheld the court's decision.

Another defendant in the “March 26 case” who pleaded guilty, Lyubertsy carpenter Alexander Shpakov, received a year and a half in prison. Stanislav Zimovets, who served in Chechnya, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison; Andrei Kosykh received three years and eight months in prison; he was accused of both parts of Article 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a representative of the authorities, including life-threatening violence).

Alexey Politikov, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to two years in prison. An ally of nationalist Vyacheslav Maltsev appealed the verdict, and his sentence was reduced by six months.

The trials in the cases of protest participants Dmitry Krepkin and Dmitry Borisov are ongoing.

On March 26, the first large-scale protest of 2016, initiated by supporters of Alexei Navalny, took place in Moscow. About a thousand people were detained, most of whom were charged with participation in an unauthorized event and refusal to obey the police (Articles 20.2 and 19.3 of the Administrative Code).
