A court in Nizhny Novgorod sentenced Leonid Volkov to 30 days of arrest

The Nizhny Novgorod District Court imposed 30 days of administrative arrest on the head of opposition leader Alexei Navalny's headquarters, Leonid Volkov, for organizing an uncoordinated event. Volkov wrote about this on Twitter.

Volkov recalled that he had already spent about four days under arrest.

“It’s funny, Mark (Volkov’s son - MZ) is 24 days old today, I’ll be around for more than half of his life. But we’ll catch up, nothing,” he writes.

The decision on the administrative case under Part 8 of Article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (repeated violation of the rules for holding mass events) was made at the seventh meeting.

On September 29, before a planned rally with Navalny, police prevented supporters of the oppositionist from installing equipment for the event. Volkov went to the police to file a complaint against them, but he himself was detained. The Savyolovsky District Court of Moscow sentenced him to 20 days of arrest, the oppositionist appealed this decision, and the Moscow City Court declared it illegal, ruling that the case should be heard in Nizhny Novgorod.

Volkov was released from custody; at the request of the special detention center employee, he began to wait in the Moscow City Court for the judge’s ruling. Upon leaving the court, he was detained again: the protocol stated that while the oppositionist was waiting for a decision, he published calls on Twitter to participate in an unapproved rally. Volkov himself insisted that at that time he did not have a smartphone with access to Twitter.
