In the 20th century, the expression “third world countries” was born, implying states that lagged behind, delayed in the Middle Ages.
This expression is critically outdated in the 21st century. Many third world countries are showing fantastic growth rates and are major players in the global economy.
China has become the world's second superpower. It builds 6,000 km of highways annually, grows by 6-8% per year, and in this country over the past 30 years 400 million people have emerged from poverty and become the middle class - that is, more than the entire population of the United States. Viet Nam is booming and looks just like China 15 years ago. The economies of India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Malaysia are growing rapidly.
In other words, practically any country of the third world, regardless of race, religion and geographical location, with the presence of sane power, can at any moment emerge from the Middle Ages and join the wide river of the world economy.
However, during the same time, what can be called fourth world countries took shape.
Fourth world countries are, for example, Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, North Korea, Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Zimbabwe, Haiti, the Palestinian Authority (although it is not quite a state).
These are countries where the ruling elite quite consciously set a course for the impoverishment of the population.
The internal politics of the fourth world countries, again regardless of race, religion, and geographical location, is characterized by the following:
The main source of money for the ruling elite is money that comes from outside: through the sale of minerals, slave labor (in the case of North Korea) or even financial assistance (as in the case of the Palestinian Authority).
An auxiliary source of money for the ruling elite are the monopolies distributed to the friends of the dictator / members of the ruling party / field commanders, and loans from state banks to create such monopolies.
The rest of the population has no access to credit, the market, or the global economy. Most of them live off benefits and salaries from state monopolies. He is also allowed to engage in subsidiary farming, shops and war. A significant proportion of the young population is adsorbed by organizations that carry out "jihad against the infidels", as well as the fight "against the white colonialists" or "Ukrainian fascists".
This total impoverishment of the population is accompanied, in turn, by loud rhetoric against the "damned capitalists", "treacherous infidels", "white colonizers" and the "rotten West", who direct all their activities to take revenge on this country. Damned whites take revenge on Haiti for being the first country in which blacks gained freedom, damned Yankees take revenge on Venezuela for the Bolivarian revolution, bloody Zionists take revenge on the Palestinians, and this explains all the troubles of these countries: from the inability of the Palestinians to take out the garbage themselves to the lack of matches in Venezuelan stores.
It is easy to see that the path that Russia is following is the path of a fourth world country. If in the days of the USSR we tried to catch up and overtake America, now the Palestinian autonomy serves as an unattainable ideal and perfection to which we must strive.
And the main economic foundation on which this path rests is the impoverishment of the population .
This may seem surprising at first glance. For the entire previous history of mankind, we have become accustomed to the fact that the ruler usually seeks the prosperity of his subjects. If they get rich, they are happy; if they get poor, they rebel, and therefore, the more prosperous the economy, the more stable the government.
This rule really worked in the pre-industrial world, where 90% of the population was employed in agriculture, and another 9% in the cities in crafts. Then 90% of people grew their own food, built their own houses, wove their own clothes and wove their own bast shoes. The income of the ruling elite consisted of taxes, and the rules were simple. If the government takes 10% from the taxpayer, he suffers, if she goes berserk and starts to fight three times, he rebels.
However, in the current post-industrial global economy, the rules are different. Even in the poorest countries, no one weaves bast shoes for themselves: plastic sandals for half a dollar still come out cheaper. Even in the poorest countries, nobody weaves T-shirts. In the fourth world, there is a huge surplus population that is easy enough to feed and clothe. And the incomes of the ruling elite do not consist of taxes, but of raw materials, state-owned enterprises and monopolies.
In such a situation, the top of the fourth world country becomes interested not in improving welfare, but in impoverishing the population and increasing its dependence on this top.
The fact is that the poor population is easier to control. Take, for example, the Palestinian Authority. On its territory, attempts were repeatedly made to organize assembly production: in the end, the population is poor, there is a lot of cheap labor, etc. Attempts inevitably ended with the fact that people came with machine guns, demanded their managerial salaries, and the whole idea was covered with a copper basin.
This development of events was by no means accidental. The terrorist organizations that lead the Palestinians, first the PLO, now Hamas, are in principle not interested in seeing a stratum of people appear on the territory of Palestine who earn money themselves. They are interested in the fact that the population lives in poverty, that the only source of money is Hamas, and the only way of vertical mobility is a career as a terrorist. They are interested in the entire population fighting against the bloody Zionists and submitting to Hamas at the same time.
Exactly the same Russia. In recent years, the authorities have destroyed the banking system of Russia, and there is no market in the modern world without loans. At the same time, state banks are willing to provide state loans to close companies. State-owned companies, which account for 65% of the market, systematically do not pay private contractors. The state farms out taxes and introduces the most unjustified monopolies.
It should be understood that all these measures are not accidental. And they are dictated not only by the elementary greed of the ruling elite, which sees how the pie is shrinking, but wants to maintain the size of its share. These measures consistently contribute to the impoverishment of the population and the dependence of the majority on the state or its corporate metastases.
Why is Sicily poor? Because it's mafia. And what is the attitude of the average Sicilian to the mafia don? He loves him. Don is an object of worship, envy and love. Only he will give the beggar Sicilian money for the wedding, only he will be able to obtain, if anything, justice, and the more dangerous it is not to love the don, the more willingly the Sicilian loves him.
Absolutely the same mechanism operates in a fourth world country.
Imagine a Russian engineer who graduated from MEPhI and works for a private Russian space company that launches satellites. And imagine a poor uncle Vasya in the village of Pupkino, who is bent over from drunkenness, but knows for sure that Crimea is ours. A simple question: which of them would be more likely to vote for Putin and know for sure that Putin alone is saving Russia from the evil Western fascists who want to bring it to its knees?
Of course, Uncle Vasya. So why does the country need engineers? Private managers? Private companies? Why MEPhI at all?
After 2014, one of the most striking features of the regime became an open transition to obscurantism: the department of theology at MEPhI, rockets sprinkled with holy water, the Investigative Committee investigating the ritual murder of the royal family, etc. The most important part of this obscurantism is the economic basis.
At first glance, it may seem that the Russian authorities are still concerned about economic growth. That all the Kremlin's economic decisions since 2014 and that bulldozers crushing Western tomatoes are just random bad moves or the result of someone's greed.
However, it is not. After Bolotnaya in the Kremlin, it became clear that office plankton and the middle class cannot be the backbone of the regime. It can only be the impoverished majority. Only it can serve as a reliable basis for a superstructure in the form of state obscurantism. Only it will allow to remain in power as long as Robert Mugabe.
In this sense, the impoverishment of the Russian population is a strategic necessity for the current government. And in the next ten to twenty years it will be determined whether Russia will forever become a fourth world country or whether its history, civilization, culture and elite will still prevent our transformation into Haiti or Zimbabwe.
