Adolescence is a special time; it is no longer a child in the full sense of the word, but not yet an adult due to physical and psychological characteristics. Hormonal changes, peculiarities of attitude towards one’s body and the psychology of a teenager leave a significant imprint on the structure of morbidity in this category. They often develop chronic processes and infections due to a careless attitude towards their health, which later carries a burden of problems into adulthood.
In adolescence, due to physiological changes in the body from a child to an adult type, frequent colds are possible due to changes in hormonal levels and exposure to stress due to school, communication problems and character difficulties. This also affects the structure of morbidity: teenagers may more often suffer from respiratory pathologies, and they often treat treatment with disdain, ignoring the advice of parents and doctor’s orders, not dressing warmly and being exposed to hypothermia. In this regard, they often develop tracheitis or laryngitis, bronchitis and sinusitis, which can complicate the condition and cause further disruptions in puberty.
Although laryngitis no longer forms swelling of the subglottic space and ligaments in adolescence, and false croup does not form in them, laryngitis can have a severe and complicated course due to non-compliance with the regimen and full treatment, ignoring recommendations on limiting vocal load. This can lead to changes in the voice and irreversible changes in the area of the vocal cords, which will make speech hoarse and quiet. Laryngitis is usually manifested by discomfort when speaking and pain in the neck, a cough that has a rough tone, dry and intrusive, similar to barking or croaking. There may be a hoarseness in the head, and with severe inflammation the head sits down, making it impossible to speak normally. If you delay in seeing a doctor and treating laryngitis, the process can become chronic. This can lead to speech impediments, voice changes, and hoarseness.
In adolescence, infectious lesions of the nasopharynx often occur, leading to the development of a runny nose and cough, malaise and colds. And often teenagers do not treat a cold, preferring to let everything take its course, which is why a runny nose can become chronic and complicated, and a secondary microbial infection is added, which forms chronic rhinitis. When it develops, problems such as sinusitis and the spread of infection to the paranasal sinuses may occur due to hypothermia, stress or other influences, which can lead to serious problems with well-being and general condition.
Most often , sinusitis is local, affecting only one of the sinuses - usually the maxillary sinus on the left or right, although bilateral inflammation is also possible. In addition, frontal sinusitis can develop - damage to the frontal sinus, or ethmoiditis - damage to the ethmoid sinus. If all the paranasal sinuses are involved in the process of inflammation against the background of high microbial aggression, pansinusitis is formed, a total defeat of all anatomical formations.
The most difficult to tolerate is purulent sinusitis, in which the outflow of mucus from the sinus cavity is impaired, which leads to the formation of purulent cavities with sharp and severe pain, malaise and severe general symptoms. In this case, emergency medical care is required by puncturing the sinuses and removing pus from them with rinsing with antiseptic solutions, which helps in recovery.
