I read the "History of the Russian State" Karamzin. Today, the turn of Boris Godunov came up (1598 - 1605). Detailed descriptions of how, after the death of King Fedor and the mysterious murder of the heir Dmitry, the country was without a successor. The eyes of everyone who represented the people for the chroniclers rushed to Boris Godunov, who had long actually ruled the country with a legally incompetent king-priest. However, Godunov is modest and over again rejects the prayers of priests, boyars and various categories of people gathering in the crowd, to sit on the throne. He does not need power, only the good of the people needs! He settled in the monastery cell and only prays for the good of the state. The people are so, but they are not in what! We tried both with banners and with all the main priests. Doesn't help!
A.S. Pushkin articulated the voice of the then people:
Inexorable! He drove away from himself
Saints, Boyars and Patriarch.
They fell in vain before him;
He is afraid of the radiance of the throne.
In the end, Godunov realized that there was no one to leave the country to, and agreed. The folk glee shook Moscow!
I turn my eyes to the TV. The jubilant masses of volunteers meet Putin. A conversation about that and this, but there is clearly only one question on the tip of the language: will you go, Vladimir Vladimirovich, to the presidential election? The host is fearlessly and impromptu voices this unexpected question. Youth rejoice. However, Putin has no weaker character than Godunov. True, he does not refuse, but leaves the answer, but asks the volunteers, and will they support him and his close people if he goes? In response, popular glee. And in the end, already in Nizhny Novgorod, Vladimir Vladimirovich surrenders under the pressure of the people: "I will go!"
It happened!
