In Yaroslavl colony No. 8, prisoner Evgeny Makarov, who had previously complained together with the Bolotnaya case defendant Ivan Nepomnyashchikh of being beaten in colony No. 1, was beaten, the “Public Verdict” foundation reported on Facebook with reference to lawyer Irina Biryukova.
As Biryukova said, a few days ago Makarov was transferred from colony No. 1 to colony No. 8 and placed in a single cell-type room “for constant complaints.” “Upon entering another colony, Makarov, according to information available to human rights activists, was beaten by administration officers, and was repeatedly threatened with rape. The prisoner's legs, buttocks and possibly internal organs were broken off. There is no investigation into what happened, the administration of the colony is trying in every possible way to hide information about what happened,” the foundation reports on Facebook.
According to Biryukova, since appeals to the Federal Penitentiary Service and the prosecutor’s office had no effect, the lawyer appealed to the ECHR with a request to conduct an urgent medical examination of her client.
In April 2017, Makarov, Nepomnyashchikh and another prisoner Ruslan Vakhapov said that they were beaten by FSIN officers during a mass search. Representatives of the FSIN claimed that Nepomniachtchi was not beaten, but his “hands were bent behind his back” during a “routine search.” Since then, Nepomniachtchi was constantly placed in a punishment cell.
