Amur Region: The City Center will pay "for the pig" 300 thousand

The Intellectual Rights Court approved the decision of the arbitration court, which obliged the organizers of the children's show in Blagoveshchensk to pay the owner of the trademark Peppa Pig - "Pig Peppa" - 320 thousand rubles.

The British company Entertainment One UK Ltd was outraged that its animated pigs without permission used the Blagoveshchensk municipal socio-cultural center in its events. Its director is a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Amur Region from the United Russia party Nadezhda Bagrov.

The owner of the trademark filed a lawsuit in January, demanding a million rubles from the city center for the “character’s work” from October 2015 to July 2016 in three performances of Rostov dolls. According to the plaintiff’s claim, the pig was also depicted without permission on booklets announcing events.

In May, the Arbitration Court of the Amur Region took into account that the Cultural Center of Blagoveshchensk earned almost half a million rubles on performances with pigs, and decided to recover 160 thousand rubles from the institution in favor of a British company. The owner of the copyright was not arranged, the British company appealed to the Court of Appeal. As a result, the amount of compensation was doubled. Annunciation officials tried to protest the decision, saying that the characters of their performances "did not have a similarity with the characters of the famous animated series", and the "creative team" of the center independently sewed costumes and wrote scripts. However, the court on intellectual rights the decision of the arbitration court confirmed.

According to the Federal Arbitration Court of the Federal Arbitration Court, since last fall, the owner of Peppa filed over 200 lawsuits against Russian companies, accusing them of illegally selling toys-toy. As a rule, for violation of rights to trademarks, the plaintiff demanded from entrepreneurs from 20 thousand to 50 thousand rubles, writes RBC .
