Iraq "completely liberated" from the terrorists of the Islamic state*, announced the country's army on Saturday, reports Reuters . It was also confirmed by the country's Prime Minister Hider al-Abadi.
Hyder al-Abadi, during a speech at a conference in Baghdad, stated that the country's armed forces took control of the desert areas in the West, as well as a section of the Syrian-Iraqi border: "We defeated the IG* thanks to unity and readiness for self-sacrifice. Long live Iraq and its inhabitants."
At the same time, earlier, the EU special services warned that such a status does not relieve the country from attacks of the local spill terrorists. At the end of November, IG* took responsibility for the attack with 17 victims in the southeast of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
In mid -November, the Iraqi army announced the capture of the city of Rava , which was called the last bastion of terrorists in its country.
Intelligence claimed that hundreds of IS fighters* fled to Syria from Rava. This country, however, is also declared free from extremists, and Russia and the United States are competing in assessing its merits in this. In the General Staff, however, they warn about the emergence of saboteurs who may impede the peaceful restoration of the country.
In early November, two important victories were won over terrorists from the Islamic State group* in Syria and Iraq: the Syrian armed forces and their allies completely liberated the city of Deir Ez-Zor, and the Iraqi military entered the city of El Caim. El-Kaim, located on the border with Syria in the western province of Anbar 550 km from Baghdad, was captured by IG* in 2014.
